Ewan Clayton’s long awaited new
book “The Golden Thread – The Story of Writing” will be available at the beginning of September. Pre-orders are now being taken so click on the above link to be
one of the first to own this book.
At long last I am able to confidently say that the reprint of Denise Lach’s amazing book
“Calligraphy - A Book of Contemporary Inspiration” will be available in about 6 weeks time. This very popular book, originally released in hardback in 2009 sold
out and went out of print within about 18 months and I have been lobbying with the publisher since then for a reprint. This
new release is a paperback edition but contains the same inspirational work. You may also pre-order this book by clicking
on the link above.
As always, when you pre-order on www.calligraphity.com, no charges will be made to your card until your book is ready for shipment.
Other recent new books include:
“Twelve Letters on a Grand Scale – The Sainsbury Wing Inscriptions by Michael Harvey” that tells the story of how, together with Annet Stirling and Brenda Berman, Michael planned and completed a letter
carving commission for a new wing of the British National Gallery.
“Private Pleasures – Illuminated Manuscripts for Persia to Paris edited by Stella
Panayotova” Tells the story of how the Denys Spittle collection of ancient manuscripts came about. Created as
an exhibition catalogue, it contains beautiful reproductions on good quality paper that really sets off the 135 examples of
these ancient and unique manuscripts, many of which have not been previously published.
This book ‘pretends’
to be an exhibition catalogue but it is packed with information and you will find it very educational and well as a joy to
look at. You know that phrase “you can’t tell a book by its cover”? It was coined for this one!!
Another exhibition catalogue that has recently captured
my attention is “Calligraphy Today edited by Patricia Lovett”. The 40 gorgeous pieces contained within will amaze and inspire you.
Contributors include: Martin Wenham, Rachel Yallop, Jan Pickett, Cilia Kilner, Mary White, Jila Peacock,
Gaynor Goffe, Gudrun Zapf von Hesse, Peter Halliday, Mary Noble, Joan Pilsbury, Susan Leiper, Herman Zapf, Pat Chaloner, Lin
Kerr, Patricia Lovett, Anthony Wood, Jean Larcher, Tom Perkins, Denis Brown, Alan Quincey, Ewan Clayton, Werner Schneider,
Frederick Marns, Penny Price, Werner Schneider, Gemma Black, Lida Cardozo Kindersley, and Ann Hechle. Stunning!!
You will all LOVE “Head, Hand, Heart – Reflections on a Practice by Ann Hechle and Ewan Clayton”.
This is truly an amazing little
book, with stunning photographs and examples of not only the work of Ewan and Ann but also some classis examples from Edward
Johnston and Irene Wellington. Three essays by Anne and two from Ewan round off this book and make it ideal for calligraphers
of any level.
I have, at long last, managed to get a limited number of copies of “Adolf Bernd – The painted letters of Adolf Bernd by Manny Ling and Peter Thornton”.
I recall that some of you may have asked me for this book in the past but I was unable to find a source so I
did not keep a record.
For fairness, I need to process any orders on a first come / first served basis.
Best Regards, Charlie
