Welcome to the www.calligraphity.com Newsletter
for February 2014.
Well, What a year 2013 was for some amazing
new books. The following is a short
summary of some of the great new books released last year...
Wurtzeln und Flügel - Schriftkunst, (Roots and Wings - The Art of Calligraphy) by Katherina Peiper is an amazing book. Written in both German and English, Katherina tells her calligraphic
life story, and provides (probably) over 200 stunning full colour plates of her work. Although the first 50 pages or so are
in German they are supported by an English summary. After that, the book is in both German and English. This catalogue of
Katharina's life work is amazing.

“The Golden Thread
– The Story of Writing by Ewan Clayton”
The summer brought us this long awaited Ewan Clayton’s
latest book in which he discusses the history of writing in a way that only Ewan could. This is not a picture book but it
is an amusing, satisfying read.

And after a lot of lobbying by www.calligraphity.com, we finally saw the reprint of Denise Lach’s amazing book “Calligraphy - A Book of Contemporary Inspiration”. On
double pages, Denise juxtaposes photographs of natural and environmental surfaces to inspire the creation of textural calligraphy
give a pictorial context for personal pieces that are intended to evoke a mood.

And to round the year off…
John Stevens’ long awaited new book “Scribe - Artist of
the Written Word” was available just in time for Christmas. On almost every one of the 260+ pages of this book there is 1, 2,
3… sometimes 6 stunning examples of John’s amazing work. I do not have the time to count them all but there must
be well over 500 pieces. Highly recommended.
